You have everything you need
October 16-20, 2023 | Always Peachy Devotionals | Be Encouraged! Week 3
Do you like camping?
Going camping has always been a delight in my family. It’s something we’ve always done, nearly every summer as I was growing up. And as I’m writing this devotional at the beginning of September, my parents and I are planning to go again. In about two weeks, we will be renting an RV and heading for the mountains.
I’ve never been “camping” in an RV before. I’m used to roughing it. Setting up a tent. Gathering wood. Building a fire. Cooking on old pots over the fire. Lighting the old gas lantern and playing dominoes in the cold until you can’t feel your fingers anymore.
There was always an underlying sense of worry when we’d go camping, because there was a fear we would forget something we’d need. When you’re out on a mountain somewhere, it’s not an easy thing to run to the nearest town for supplies.
So going to the mountains in an RV is going to be a different experience for me. There are beds. There’s a stove. And a microwave. A bathroom with a shower. Shoot, there’s even a TV and a DVD player! (What??)
It’s amazing to realize that we will have just about everything we need to be comfortable when we are out on a mountain somewhere. We’ll be out on an adventure, but when we need something, we’ll have it available.
And I think that’s what God is trying to tell us about following Him. We may have to leave home and go out on some mountain somewhere. There may be some tough roads. There may be some boring stretches where you have to wait longer than you’d like. But no matter where you’re going, you have everything you need.
God has already given us all the resources, the empowering, the equipping, and the gifting to do what He has called us to do. So when we obey and start walking the path He’s led us to, we will find ourselves ready.
That’s what we’re talking about this week, because so many times I think we hold ourselves back because we think we’re not qualified. We delay making a decision because we convince ourselves we’re unworthy. Or we avoid difficult circumstances because we aren’t strong enough to face them.
None of that is true. As a child of God, you have everything you need RIGHT NOW to do what God has called you to do. So this week, we’re going to talk about what God has given to us that we can use in our everyday life to conquer whatever we’re facing.
Oct 16 - He will be with you in trouble (Isaiah 43:2)
Oct 17 - God equips us (Hebrews 12:27-28)
Oct 18 - Our spiritual weapons (2 Corinthians 10:3-5)
Oct 19 - Our spiritual gifts (1 Corinthians 12:4-7)
Oct 20 - God will help us (Hebrews 2:18)
How do we know all this is true? How can we be sure that this is really a promise God has made to us? Well, how do you think? The best way to make sure God actually made a promise is to read the Bible. Search the Scriptures. Read what He says.
In this instance, look up 2 Peter 1:3, because that’s what we’re memorizing this week.
When we came to Jesus, He completed us at that moment. He gave us everything we would need to fulfill the purpose He has for our lives.
So don’t wait any longer. Stop beating around the bush. Don’t believe the lies that you aren’t ready or you aren’t prepared or that you aren’t enough. With God, you are.
Praying for each of you this week, that God would make His perfect will known to you and that you would have the courage to chase after Him with all the strength in your heart.
Love you all,
Amy
