You can't get found if you won't admit you're lost
If you know that your life isn’t working and you’re willing to ask Him for help, you are the one He is here for.
“I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners and need to repent.” (Luke 5:32)
Want to know the greatest irony of my life? People constantly ask me for directions. It doesn’t matter where I go. Everyone thinks I know where I’m going, I guess, so they ask me how to find what they’re looking for.
Friends. I can’t find my way out of a paper bag. I always leave fifteen minutes early to go anywhere because I’m padding my travel time with enough margin to turn around at least twice.
So what would happen if I walked around and bragged about how great a navigator I am? Obviously, I’d leave a lot of confused people in my wake. But how often do you meet someone who is blind to their own faults? And not just blind but blissfully, willfully ignorant about them?
None of us are perfect. We know that, but we all know people who live like they are. Those people who wander around the world lost and unable to find the right road act as though they know exactly where they are going, and they refuse to accept directions from anyone.
Know someone like that? Are you friends with someone like that? I would bet someone popped into your mind right away.
It’s someone who is completely lost and thrilled to death about it.
I’m not sure there’s much anyone can do for those people. If you are happy being lost, if you are content wandering without purpose or meaning or direction, and you won’t admit that you need help? Then that’s the life you’re going to live.
But if you’re willing to admit that you don’t know where you’re going, it’s a lot easier to accept help. If you are willing to embrace the fact that you can’t get through life without God’s mercy and leading, you will end up on top, folks.
Jesus didn’t come to save people who don’t need saving. Why would He do that? No, He came to help people who recognize that they need Him. If you know that your life isn’t working and you’re willing to ask Him for help, you are the one He is here for.
So ask Him for help today. Tell Him that you’ll go His way from now on. And you will be amazed at how much more clearly you’ll be able to see your life.
