Worship changes our perspective

acwilliams.substack.com

Hello, friends!

We are officially halfway through the month of May. Is anyone else shocked at how quickly this year is going? I used to think that the whole “time flies when you’re having fun” thing was true, but now I think it’s more like “time just flies.”

I hope this study of worship has been meaningful and enlightening for you. I am so astonished and humbled to be welcomed to stand in God’s presence at any time of day, and when the moment comes that I actually get to meet Him face to face, I’m not sure I’ll even be able to speak. So I figure I’d better get all my worship out now!

So far this month, we’ve talked about what worship is and what attitudes we need to bring to worship. Now we’re moving forward to how worship affects us, because worship is a powerful thing.

This week we’re talking about how worship changes our perspective in five different areas of life. Worship changes our perspective:

  • May 16 - On God

  • May 17 - On Ourselves

  • May 18 - On Others

  • May 19 - On Life

  • May 20 - On Eternity

Worship gets under our skin and transforms us, so we’d better make sure we’re worshiping what’s true, right?

God has an important perspective on worship too, but I’m not sure it’s what we would expect it to be. We’ll talk later in the month about why worship matters to God so much, but for now we’re going to focus on Hosea 6:6 as our memory verse for the week.

I want you to show love, not offer sacrifices. I want you to know me more than I want burnt offerings. Hosea 6:6

Isn’t it amazing that God wants a relationship with us first? If we try to offer Him worship, whether it’s through sacrifices or singing or good deeds, He wants to know that it’s coming from a heart of love for Him. Not duty or obligation. If duty and obligation is all that drives us, I’m not sure He wants our worship at all.

It’s something to think about for sure.

Praying for all of you this week!

Blessings,

Amy
