Why God is better than an idol
June 20 - June 24, 2022 | Always Peachy Devotionals | Idols Week 3
Hello there, friends!
I hope your June is unfolding well and that God is showing Himself to you in a miraculous way this week. We serve an awesome God, don’t we? I’m so grateful He never gives up on us.
This study of idols has been particularly difficult for me, and I want to say that you guys are some of the bravest people around if you’re still here reading along. Facing down our idols is one of the hardest things we can do, but with God all things are possible—even (and especially) the things that feel impossible!
Replacing God is such an easy thing for us to do, isn’t it? Idolatry is remarkably insidious. It’s so subtle that many times we don’t even notice that it’s crept into our lives until God calls us on it. Sometimes I think we allow idols into our lives because we forget how much better God is.
So that’s what we’re going to talk about this week. We’re going to study some verses that remind us why God is better than the idols who sneak into our hearts. None of these concepts are new or revolutionary, and you may even have some of your own. But these are the ways I think that God is better than idols:
June 20 - God loves you
June 21 - God knows the answers
June 22 - God is always right
June 23 - God has proved Himself
June 24 - God wants a relationship with you
I’m so excited to share these devotionals with you. They’ve been such an encouragement to me, and I pray that they will be meaningful to you as well.
This week’s memory verse is powerful too, 1 Samuel 12:21.
It’s a strong reminder of why idols aren’t worth following. They can’t help you or rescue you from danger, so why do we think they deserve our allegiance? It’s a question that’s probably older than time itself, if we’re being honest.
But just because it’s something all humanity struggles with doesn’t mean we have to give into it. Let’s keep growing in our faith and making ourselves aware of the idols that threaten to distract us!
Praying for you all this week!
Amy
