Anybody else tired?
My to-do list is longer than my leg. As per usual, I’m too busy, and I’m struggling. But the busier I get, the less interested I am in doing anything. Does that happen to anyone else?
Some seasons just feel like too much to bear, and 2021 has been a whole year of those seasons. But God has something to say about giving up.
So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.
Galatians 6:9
That’s the trick, isn’t it? How do you hold on to hope when you’ve got nothing left? How do you persevere when you’re exhausted in every possible way?
2021 has been a struggle for a lot of people. Don’t think that you’re alone in your weariness. You’re not.
Perseverance is a choice, and it looks different for everyone.
Maybe for you it means therapy. Maybe it means asking someone for help. Maybe it means stepping away from work for a while to rest. Once you determine what’s exhausting you, take steps to build healthy boundaries around it.
Finding hope again in your life starts with doing what’s right. I know it’s easier to do what feels right or what culture defines as right. It’s so much easier to just keep living in exhaustion and tell that lie or spend that money or to lash out at the hurting person who hurt me.
It may be easier today, but it will cause more problems tomorrow.
But God tells us what He expects from us (Micah 6:8). Do right. Love others. Be humble. That means being kind when we don’t feel kind. It means choosing a road that’s harder to walk when we’re already tired. It means trusting God when we don’t understand.
It also means resting. It means making healthy choices that refresh your soul. It means putting boundaries in your life to protect your soul.
If you’re struggling to have hope today and you just want to give up, please take a day off and rest. Please step back and spend a day with Jesus. Let Him remind you Who He is, because He’s worth the struggle.
Questions for Reflection:
What is something in your life this moment that you can choose to do right?
What stops you from doing what is right? Identify what causes you to waver in your walk and learn to see it coming.
Make a list of healthy habits you would like to put into practice in your life and talk to the Lord about doing them.
