When you need to see God's heart
We should all seek to follow God’s rules, but we should also seek to understand why they matter in the first place.
Then Jesus said to them, “The Sabbath was made to meet the needs of people, and not people to meet the requirements of the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is Lord, even over the Sabbath!” (Mark 2:27-28)
Who are the rule-followers in your life? We all know someone who is just noble in heart and pure in mind and insists with the naïve innocence of youth that every rule in the rulebook must be obeyed without question.
Yes, I like rules. But I reached a point in my adulthood where I needed to understand not how to a obey a rule but why a rule mattered. As children, questioning rules isn’t a good idea. We haven’t experienced enough life to be able to make a wise decision. But as an adult, if you aren’t questioning the reasons behind why we do something, you might ought to start.
If the rule you’re questioning is from God, it will hold up to scrutiny. You should be able to understand the why behind every rule you’re standing on, otherwise what happens when someone else questions you?
