When work is all you know
God wanted to make sure His people understood that His plan for them was different than any other master they had served before.
But our High Priest offered himself to God as a single sacrifice for sins, good for all time. Then he sat down in the place of honor at God’s right hand. (Hebrews 10:12)
What happens when you stop working? I mean, honestly. What happens? If you’re an hourly worker, you stop making money. Even if you’re salaried, your bosses will only let you get away with skipping work so often.
If you don’t work, you don’t pay bills. If you don’t work, you don’t eat. If you don’t work, you have no money, and you’re in serious trouble. Any other soul-sisters or soul-brothers out there get majorly stressed out about money?
When God established the idea of the Sabbath, the people of Israel were slave nation. They knew nothing about making their own decisions. They had no experience on living their own lives. All they knew was work, from sun up to sun down, no break, no reward, no compassion. Just work. And if they didn’t work, they were punished.
