When we push God's boundaries
Ehat is your attitude about the Sabbath? Because that’s what we’re dealing with here.
One day while the people of Israel were in the wilderness, they discovered a man gathering wood on the Sabbath day. So the whole community took the man outside the camp and stoned him to death, just as the Lord had commanded Moses. (Numbers 15:32, 36)
Does the Bible ever just stop you in your tracks and make you go, “What the heck?” Yes, my hand is raised. Because every time I read this passage (Numbers 15:32-36) I find myself wondering what on Earth this means.
This is harsh. Look, I believe the Bible. I trust God’s Word. I will follow God and obey His Word even when I don’t like, it but this is a difficult one for me.
Read the passage again. The dude was just out gathering sticks. So what if it was the Sabbath? Did he actually deserve to die for that?
