Thank Him for tomorrow while it's still today
This world isn’t home. It’s barely a speck on the map. The things that matter so much to us in our daily lives here are going to feel so small in eternity.
Don’t envy sinners, but always continue to fear the Lord. You will be rewarded for this; your hope will not be disappointed. (Proverbs 23:17-18)
What’s on your wish list? What are the things you want more than anything else in the world? If you’ve got a bucket list, those are the things I’m talking about. Impossible dreams. Wild hopes. Places and goals and achievements on the edge of your imagination.
I hope your wildest dreams don’t revolve around financial achievement. Dream bigger than money.
Guys, I want to see Mars at ground level. I want to know what Dark Matter actually is. I want to know how many dimensions are actually in existence (last I heard was 11 or something). I want to experience Creation the way God intended.
And you know what? I will. All of those experiences are in my future. When all is as God meant for it to be, for eternity, those are the things I’ll spend my life doing, marveling and rejoicing at the great things God has made and done and prepared for me.
For us. For all of us. This world isn’t home. It’s barely a speck on the map. The things that matter so much to us in our daily lives here are going to feel so small in eternity. That utility bill? The cost of gasoline? The economy? Come on, guys. We value gold and precious jewels on Earth, but in eternity, God uses them to pave the sidewalks.
As long as we live on Earth, we’ll have to manage the brokenness around us. That’s just a fact. We have to deal with own sinful natures and the sinful natures of everyone around us, as well as with the consequences of what generations of sinful choices have done to the world. But God gives us grace for today and hope for tomorrow.
So don’t just thank Him for what He did yesterday or what He’s doing today. Don’t just thank Him for how He’s going to use the bad things to do something beautiful. Thank Him for tomorrow before it gets here. Thank Him for the future He has in store for all of us. Because it’s going to be glorious and so much more than any of us could ask or imagine.
Thank Him for tomorrow while it’s still today. It will revolutionize your perspective on your life. Don’t believe me? Try it and see for yourself.
Questions for Reflection:
What is something you are looking forward to in heaven?
What do you think eternity is going to be like?
Why do you think God only gives us glimpses of the life to come?
