Strategies to guard against idolatry
June 27 - July 1, 2022 | Always Peachy Devotionals | Idols Week 4
Is June really almost over?
That’s crazy. Wow. Well, welcome to the last week of June! I hope your month has been delightful and that God has shown Himself to you in some way you haven’t noticed before. (Are you looking for Him?)
I know this study of idols in our lives has been a challenge, but I hope it’s also been inspirational too. Nothing is impossible with God, and that means we can conquer the idols in our lives that are holding us down if we just rely on God’s power rather than our own.
So how do we do that? Well, this week we’re getting practical. We’re going to talk about the strategies we can use to keep idols out of our lives. Idols are tricky things, and they are also stubborn. Most of the time, you can think you’ve kicked them to the curb effectively, and they’ll still come back to haunt you.
Granted, that’s not really the idol doing it but our own human nature that is dead set on doing things our own way rather than God’s way! Personally I am so ready to shed this “old man” and go home where my sin nature will be a thing of the past. What about you?
But until then, we still have to deal with the darkness in our hearts. So here are some ways we can be strategic in how we follow Jesus and do everything we can to keep our eyes on Him and not on idols.
June 27 - Identify your idols
June 28 - Change your mind about them
June 29 - Remove and Replace
June 30 - Set boundaries
July 1 - Accountability partners
I can’t wait to dive into these points this week, and I pray that they will be as helpful to you as they have been to me.
For our memory verse this week, we’re going with a powerful old classic that’s perfectly suited for this topic, Romans 12:2.
Every choice we make, every attitude we hold, and every interaction we experience starts with how we think. So if our thoughts are screwy, our lives will be too. That’s why it’s so important to make sure we are thinking about the right sort of things!
Are you ready for this, my friends? I sure am, and I can’t wait to see how God is going to bless us this week!
Praying for each of you,
Amy
