Sometimes all you've got is a fish sandwich
Don’t be ashamed of a small gift. Don’t feel guilty if all you can do is a small thing. Our God moves mountains with mustard seeds.
For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him. (Philippians 2:13)
We’ve spent this month talking about God’s amazing gifts. Hasn’t it been great? It’s been so exciting, and I’ve loved every moment of it. I hope it’s been a blessing for you too.
But we need to get clear and transparent about something before we shift gears: What if your spiritual gift isn’t a big deal?
What if all you can do is something small? What if all you can accomplish is something that doesn’t actually make a difference? Will God still honor that? Will God still be pleased with that?
Over the years, I have learned the hard way that life runs in seasons. You live through seasons that are more fruitful than others. Some seasons you don’t get a harvest at all. And it’s at those times you have to remember that it’s not about the harvest—it’s about obedience.
Obedience through seasons of difficulty will return an eventual harvest greater than anything you can imagine. At least, that’s what I believe. That’s what I’m holding onto right now in my life for various reasons.
There were times in my past when I could do so much for the Lord. I could serve in so many ministries. I could accomplish so much for my Jesus. And when I had to step back, it felt like amputating an arm.
But it’s not about the service, it’s who you’re serving. It’s not about what you do, it’s about who you’re doing it for. It’s not about how much you get done, it’s about why it matters to God.
Sometimes all you can bring is a little. But if that is all you can bring, that’s all God wants.
Scripture is full of examples of the poor and needy bringing tiny, insignificant offerings. The widow and her tiny coins. The boy and his tiny lunch. If the only gift you can bring is the last breath you have, God won’t just honor it—He will bless it.
Don’t be ashamed of a small gift. Don’t feel guilty if all you can do is a small thing. Our God moves mountains with mustard seeds. When what you give is all you have, God can do the impossible.
