Obeying God when we don't agree with Him
February 21 - February 25, 2022 | Always Peachy Devotionals
We’re going to talk about obedience this week!
Wait, didn’t we already talk about obedience in our thoughts? Isn’t obedience in our beliefs the same? Not even a little bit.
What we think and what we believe can be two separate things. Yes, we have a choice over both, but we still have to choose. Granted, if you change the way you think, it will often affect your beliefs and vice versa. But part of the sanctification process is allowing your thoughts and your beliefs to align.
For example, I know many people who believe that Jesus died for them but refuse to believe that God created the universe. I know many people who believe in the teachings of Jesus but don’t follow many of His principles when it comes to how they vote. I know many people who believe in Jesus but tend to leave Him in the pew, rather than taking Him to work or home.
There’s an idea that we can cherry pick what we believe about God. We can selectively choose the truth we believe and reject what makes us uncomfortable, but that’s not how truth works. Following Jesus isn’t like a restaurant buffet.
If you want Jesus in your life, you have to take all of Him—even the parts you don’t understand or agree with. And until you do, until He gets into your beliefs to the point where it affects you live, nobody will recognize Him in you.
So this week we’re going to be looking at the choices we should make in order to center our beliefs (and by extension our lives) on what Jesus said is right.
February 21 - The choice between life and death
February 22 - Your beliefs don’t just affect you
February 23 - Getting good fruit from a bad tree
February 24 - Everyone follows someone
February 25 - Tradition won’t save you
This week, we’ll also be memorizing one of my favorite verses in Scripture, Proverbs 3:5-6.
This has been my life verse since I was very young, and it’s been a verse I have returned to over and over through my life to help me remember that when I don’t understand, God does. I just have to trust Him, and He’ll show me which way to go.
I’m so excited for this week, guys. I hope it means as much to you as it has for me. I needed every single one of these, even as I was writing them. I pray that the Lord inspires and encourages you this week!
