How can we know God values us?

Hello there, friends!

I hope July is treating you well. Here in the Central Plains we’re melting, but there’s nothing unusual about that. It’s seasons like this when I’m so grateful for air conditioning. What about you? What’s something that you appreciate in the summertime that doesn’t mean as much to you at other times of the year?

Our perception of value is subjective. For instance, I don’t think I adequately valued how much I loved the taste of coffee until I couldn’t taste it anymore. Yes, my COVID-fried olfactory senses are getting close to being normal again, but coffee is among the few things that don’t taste right. Still.

I didn’t really value those things until I didn’t have them anymore. That’s why it’s so important to appreciate what you have while you have it. And that goes for your relationships far more than your sense of taste or smell.

But that begs the question, how do you show someone you value them? How do you demonstrate the worth you place on another person? Of course, that conversation can lead us into all sorts of rabbit trails about personalities and love languages. But for the purpose of what we talk about every weekday, let’s focus in on one question in particular: How do we know that God values us?

We know what He values, yes, but how can we be sure that we are the ones who He places worth in? That’s what we’re talking about this week.

  • July 11 - We can’t hit the target

  • July 12 - We are more valuable than we think

  • July 13 - We get to choose our path

  • July 14 - We don’t have to grieve alone

  • July 15 - We are a source of joy

When I think about being valued, I often go back to moments when people have given me a second chance. In those moments, people weren’t seeing me by my failures or defining me by how I’d messed up. Instead, they saw me as someone worthy of another shot. And the verse I thought we could memorize this week says pretty much the same thing. This week’s verse is Lamentations 3:22-23.

The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.

Aren’t you glad that God’s faithful love never ends? That every morning His mercies are new? And that we have another chance to serve Him every time the sun rises? That brings me such peace, knowing that no matter how I screw things up today, tomorrow is a new day, and His mercies never fail.

Hold on to that today. You have new mercy. You have another chance. Sure, God gets the glory no matter what, but it’s still nice to get it right once in a while.

May the Lord remind you today that you aren’t alone.

Blessings and all the hugs, dear friends!

Amy
