How can we know for sure that Jesus made us whole?
June 8 - 14, 2025 | Always Peachy Devotionals | Wholeness Week 2
When you met Jesus, did you hear angels singing?
No? What about sparkling lights? Fireworks? Tingling sensations? Trumpeting fanfare or choirs vocalizing? Nothing?
Me neither.
Actually I don’t know anyone who heard or experienced any of those things. In some cases there might have been relief. In other cases there may have been peace. But nothing tangible. (That’s not to say it hasn’t happened, of course. Everyone has a different experience.)
I decided to follow Jesus when I was seven years old. I remember it. I know I made the choice then. But I can’t tell you that my life changed enormously. I was a good kid before I decided to follow Jesus; I remained a good kid afterward. It wasn’t a radical overnight transformation that anyone could see, and that included me.
I knew many people who’d had viscerally transformative experiences, where they truly became a different person from one moment to the next. I heard extraordinary testimonies of the most wicked of sinners who became the most glorious of saints through faith in Christ. And then, well, there was me.
So by the time I hit thirteen or so, I really began to question whether I was actually saved or not. I didn’t feel changed. I didn’t feel like a new person. I didn’t feel like there was anything different about my life. I feared that I had missed something vital.
If that’s you, this week has your name on it. If you’ve followed Jesus for so long that you don’t remember a time when you didn’t know Him, put your listening ears on.
While there is more evidence for the authenticity of the Bible than any other historical document in the world, one historical element proves God’s transformative power more than any other: The changed lives of the men and women who chose to follow Him.
We don’t have time to go into it today. Maybe some other week. But even the most skeptical of scholars can look at the region around Jerusalem in the first century and know that something happened. Something big went down. Because a revolution broke out. Something different than had ever been seen.
Twelve ordinary (unlearned and ignorant, Scripture says) men turned the entire world on its head. You have to ask why. You have to ask what they experienced. You have to ask what changed them.
The answer? The One who changed them is the same One who changed you. And He did change you, whether you feel like it or not. The ways we can know He changed us are the basis of what we’re talking about this week.
Monday - We forgive the unforgivable (Colossians 3:13)
Tuesday - We love the unlovable (Proverbs 25:21-22)
Wednesday - We do the impossible (Matthew 17:20)
Thursday - We believe the unbelievable (Mark 9:24)
Friday - We endure to the end (Hebrews 3:12-14)
When we choose to follow Jesus, we are walking away from our old life. We are turning our backs on the way we used to think, the way we used to live, the way we used to be. That old life is dead. We don’t walk that way anymore. We don’t rely on the same standards as we did before.
Instead, Jesus becomes our benchmark. Jesus becomes our standard. Jesus becomes our target. Jesus becomes our life.
Our memory verse for this week is a classic, the best verse in Scripture to help us remember what it means to truly follow Jesus, Galatians 2:20.
The sinful nature that used to control me was nailed to the cross along with Jesus, and the power that raised Him from the dead resurrected me to a new way of living.
Jesus has given me the power to live the way He did. Because of His strength alive in me, I can conquer any challenge the enemy throws at me. I can rise above any fear that tries to control me. I can overcome any obstacle that stands in my way, even if it’s an obstacle of my own making.
How can you know that Jesus has made you whole? Let’s talk about it.
Praying for you this week.
Amy
