How biblical is the Golden Rule?

You want to know your responsibility? You want to know what God expects from you? Treat others the way you want to be treated.

Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets. (Matthew 7:12) 

I constantly run into people who think they know what’s in the Bible. Years ago, I recall meeting a person who was fully convinced that the Bible included passages about the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny.
