Don't give up on your dream
You may need to wait on it longer than you expected, but God wouldn’t have given it to you without a reason.
For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever. (1 John 2:16-17)
Almost everyone has a dream of some kind. They don’t always take the same shapes because people are different, and we are all wired for different desires. But we all want something.
So what are you chasing? It’s normal and expected to pursue a career, a family, a house, a better position. The list is as long and varied as the people in the world.
Have you ever considered that your dreams are something you can steward? I used to think that the dreams I had for myself were so wild and wacky that God couldn’t possibly care about them. How wrong I was about that!
If God has planted a desire in your heart, it’s not by accident. God doesn’t make mistakes, and if He has wired you for a certain dream, don’t take it for granted. Don’t ignore it.
Use it. Pursue it. Go after it with all your strength, but do it because God has called you to it.
You can chase after success and achievement and status and power and wealth if you want. There’s nothing wrong with those things necessarily, but what you will find is that they are temporary. Those things don’t last, and even in this life the satisfaction they will bring you is limited.
Your dream isn’t something you should ignore or push aside. Yes, there is a time for everything. Maybe you’re not in a season where it’s wise to chase after a dream, but that doesn’t mean you should give it up. Waiting on a dream doesn’t mean you can’t pursue it; it just means you need to wait for God’s timing to be right.
God has a purpose for your life, for your gifts, for your unique perspective. Don’t give up on the dream God planted in your heart. You may need to wait on it longer than you expected, but God wouldn’t have given it to you without a reason.
So, what dream are you pursuing? What dream are you waiting on? Hold on to that dream, not because it’s something that you have the power to bring to reality but because in His perfect timing God will do something extraordinary through you.
